In a commendable effort to alleviate the burdens faced by families due to the current economic hardship, a non-governmental organization, Beauty for Ashes, on Friday October 11, distributed educational materials to over 120 students across various schools in Akure.
The event, held at the Caring Heart Mega school, Ijapo estate, brought joy and relief to many students and their families.
With many parents and students grappling with concerns about securing essential educational supplies, this initiative provided a much-needed lifeline.
Beneficiaries were selected based on specific eligibility criteria: they must be current pupils or students, demonstrate academic achievement, be involved in community activities, and in dire need of financial assistance for their education.
The lucky students received a variety of school essentials, including backpacks, mathematical sets, rulers, exercise books, pencils, and other vital provisions. Schools represented in the distribution included Ijapo Mega school, St. Anthony Araromi, Brilliant group of schools, Best Legacy, God’s Favour, Grace and Favour, Apostolic, GLOview, and many more. Secondary schools beneficiaries hailed from Fiwasaye, Ijapo High school St. Daniel Alagbaka, Accord Academy and others.

In her welcome address on behalf of the organisation, Pastor Mrs. Abímbólá Akindunbi expressed profound gratitude to God for the programme’s success despite various hurdles. She also acknowledged the unwavering support of the founders, Mr Akinbolawa and Mrs Olubunmi Akinbobola for making this initiative possible.
She further appreciated the parents, recognizing their continuous efforts and sacrifice in supporting their children’s education.
She informed that, Mrs Olubunmi Akinbobla, the convener of Beauty for Ashes, is an ex-student of Ijapo Primary School, now Ijapo Estate Caring Heart Primary School. She had her Primary Six School Leaving Certificate in 1991, over Thirty-three (33) years ago.
She gave the Back to School package to the beneficiaries students, as part of her community service to her alma mater and the less privileged students and pupils in both Secondary, Primary and Nursery Schools in Akure and Oba-ile.
The event also featured an uplifting music interlude led by Minister Omowumi Maxwell, which added a lively and joyous atmosphere. The attendees were visibly delighted by the soulful music, which gave the occasion a celebratory feel.
Pastor Adebayo delivered an inspiring exhortation, encouraging students to take charge of their destinies. He emphasized the importance of hard work, seriousness in their studies, avoiding negative influences, and respecting their parents and teachers, assuring them that a bright future awaits those who strive for excellence.
Among the beneficiaries was Godstime Ekpeonyong Offong, a Primary Five pupil from Ijapo Mega Primary School, who expressed her happiness, stating, “I am extremely happy, and even my aunty will be happy.” Another beneficiary, Aluko Divine from Brilliant School, thanked Beauty for Ashes, saying, “I appreciate Beauty for Ashes for giving us these educational materials; may the Lord be with you.”
