The Ondo State Police Command has moved to reassure residents following the spread of a viral video in which a cleric allegedly warned of imminent attacks in parts of the state, describing the claims as currently unverified and without confirmed intelligence backing.
In a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abayomi Jimoh on monday, the Command acknowledged the video’s circulation across social media platforms but urged the public to remain calm and avoid amplifying what it called “unsubstantiated or alarmist information” capable of triggering unnecessary panic.
“As of this moment, there is no confirmed intelligence indicating any imminent terrorist attack in Ondo State,” the statement read.
According to him, despite that assurance, the Command has not treated the matter lightly. Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu has ordered a discreet investigation into both the source and content of the video, with surveillance operations, intelligence gathering and security deployments ramped up across the state — particularly around identified vulnerable points.
The response reflects a familiar balancing act for security agencies: managing public anxiety without dismissing concerns outright.
Residents have been advised to stay vigilant, report suspicious persons or movements to the nearest police station, and rely only on verified official sources for security updates. The Command added that it was working alongside other security agencies, community leaders, traditional institutions and local vigilante groups to maintain peace across the state.
