The Ondo State Police Command has moved to calm public anxiety in Akure, dismissing as false reports circulating on social media and within the metropolis claiming that a curfew had been imposed on the state capital.
In a press release signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, on Sunday, the police said categorically that no curfew existed and that there was no security situation warranting panic among residents.
“The Command states categorically that no such curfew exists and there is no security development warranting panic or apprehension among residents,” the statement read.
The Command warned those behind the spread of the rumours to stop immediately, describing the false claims as a deliberate attempt to create fear and tension. It added that anyone found spreading misinformation intended to incite panic or disturb public order would face prosecution under the law.
Residents were urged to remain calm, continue with their normal activities, and rely only on verified and credible sources for information.
