Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have foiled a kidnap attempt in Akure, rescuing a victim and arresting one suspect after a swift and coordinated operation.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, along the Oba-Ile axis of the state capital, where police officers on routine patrol responded to credible intelligence about a distress situation involving an occupant of a moving vehicle.
According to the police Public Relations Officer DSP Jimoh Abayomi, the victim was heard shouting for help from inside a red Toyota Camry, prompting officers to immediately mobilise and pursue the vehicle. During the chase, the suspects reportedly pushed the victim, identified as Kayode Alaba, out of the moving car in a desperate attempt to evade arrest.
Despite the development, the police team sustained the pursuit, leading to the arrest of one suspect, Adegbenro Adeola, while other members of the gang escaped. The vehicle used in the operation was recovered.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had earlier been abducted from his residence along Irese Road, Akure, before the timely intervention of the police.
The rescued victim is currently receiving medical attention, while the arrested suspect is said to be cooperating with investigators by providing useful information to aid the arrest of the fleeing accomplices.
The case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in Akure for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, commended the operatives for their gallantry, professionalism, and swift response. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
The police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing crime-fighting efforts in the state.
