Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Wednesday met with members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) and other All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in the state, in a session aimed at reconciliation following the party’s recent primaries.

The leaders unanimously affirmed the governor as the party’s leader in Ondo State and pledged their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

The meeting, held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Akure, resolved to promote reconciliation, strengthen internal cohesion, and preserve the unity and progressive ideals of the APC in the state.

GAC Chairman Chief Pius Akinyelure, in his opening remarks, said it was the council’s first meeting since the primaries, noting that it reflected leaders’ commitment to resolving differences and safeguarding the party’s stability.

He recalled that the council had last convened on August 9 the previous year, and thanked God for preserving the state and providing another opportunity for leaders to deliberate on issues affecting Ondo State and the APC.
Akinyelure said the party’s greatest strength remained its unity of purpose, adding that disagreements from political contests were normal in a democracy and had always been resolved through dialogue, mutual respect, and sacrifice.

He urged leaders and government officials to work together ahead of 2027 to surpass Ondo’s performance in the 2023 presidential election, where the state recorded the second-highest percentage of votes for Tinubu nationwide.

He commended Aiyedatiwa’s administration, pledged the council’s continued support, and called on members to shun division and rancour.

Speaking with journalists afterward, Akinyelure confirmed that leaders had unanimously endorsed Aiyedatiwa as APC leader in the state and said necessary adjustments had been made to strengthen party unity.

Former Ondo North senator Ajayi Boroffice said the meeting resolved to ensure all party members recognise Aiyedatiwa as the APC leader in Ondo State, describing him as the institution representing the party in the state.

He said leaders resolved to intensify efforts toward Tinubu’s re-election and improve on the state’s 2023 electoral performance, adding that they would engage the APC national leadership to communicate the resolutions.

APC South-West Vice Chairman Isaac Kekemeke said more than 30 party leaders at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to Tinubu’s re-election and agreed that all support groups should operate under Aiyedatiwa’s leadership.

He urged the national leadership to involve major stakeholders in decisions concerning Ondo State.
