Non-governmental organizations in Ondo State, Child Protection Network, and the Kids &Teens Resource Centre (K&TRC), today, visited victims of Owo June 5 terror attack and distribute items.
The Child Protection Network Coordinator, Olabisi Omolona who led her team on the visitation commiserated on their loss and assured the children that despite the recent tragedy, their future is bright. “We acknowledge your pain and we want to be an arm you can lean on.”
She also solicited that the Government should support the children with educational and psychosocial aid to enable them attain their dreams.
Adding that: “The Government should strengthen security in the State to avoid future occurrences and a proper identification system for all okada riders should be put in place to make it difficult for anyone to use okada to perpetrate evil and escape.”
The Executive Director of Kids &Teens Resource Centre (K&TRC) Folasade Bamigboye, also expressed her resentment of the horrible incident.
She promised that the organisation would always be available to provide Psychosocial support and Mentorship to the children to help them overcome the traumatic experience and excel in their academic pursuits.
On arrival, the team met the creator of the video that went viral (Mrs. Odusanya) and she briefed them on her position on the situation. She stated that she has already handed over the children to the church through the palace.
She said, “The uncle of the Children informed us that the Catholic church has promised to take full responsibility for the children and sponsor their education.”
However, Mrs. Odusanya led the team to the paediatric ward of Federal Medical Center Owo to meet with other persons affected. The team presented packs of baby diapers, cartons of noodles, and beverages to the family and promised to provide more support.
The team proceeded from there to the St Louis hospital where other persons affected were receiving treatment.
The OIC, Sister Agnes disclosed that she was not aware of the children whose video went viral. However, she affirmed that the church is ready to take up the children’s education from now till the university level. Items such as (Toiletries, Biscuits, and noodles) were also presented at the hospital to distribute to the children receiving treatment in bed.
The Child Labour Desk Officer of the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Monisola Bello also paid visits to the children that were affected by the attack on the Church in Owo.
