The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked the ongoing rumour of the attempt by the state government and the All Progressive Congress, APC, party to use cadet officers of the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (O-Yes) to rig Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

The Osun state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Olusegun Agbaje told journalists at a press conference in Osogbo on Friday that, the rumour was untrue, saying any member of the O-Yes monitoring the election tomorrow is an impostor.

According to Newsflagship Agbaje explained that, the commission only recruited 16,000 ad-hoc from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), students from Federal Polytechnic, Ede and Obafemi University, Ile-Ife as well as staff of federal establishments in the state.

He added that, only trained ad-hoc staff and permanent staff of the commission including the security personnel and journalists were only allowed to monitor the electoral exercise.

The REC announced that, the commission had distributed sensitive materials across the 30 Local Government areas of the state.

Agbaje said, “The election materials have all been transported to the local government areas. We started distributing them this morning and we completed it this evening. They have all been moved and they are all at the local government including smart card readers. They are being watched by security men and nothing can tamper with them.”

“We are ready for the Saturday election and we want to assure everybody that the election will be credible and security operatives would ensure that it is violence-free as well.”

The security arrangement around the Central Bank of Nigeria, where the sensitive election materials were kept before they were moved to INEC offices in each of the 30 local government areas, were tightened.
