Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, Labour Party candidate for the House of Representatives, Owerri Federal Constituency, has formally presented her Certificate of Return and unveiled a 10-point development agenda aimed at transforming the constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the Ada Owere 1, said her decision to step down from the Senate race and contest for the House of Representatives was borne out of the need to strengthen party unity and contribute to the rebuilding of the Labour Party following a period of internal challenges and legal disputes.
She acknowledged the disappointment of some supporters who had expected her to emerge as the party’s senatorial candidate for Imo East Senatorial District but explained that the decision was made after extensive consultations and careful consideration of the party’s interests.
According to her, sacrifice, cooperation, and teamwork are necessary to reposition the Labour Party for future electoral success.
The former Ondo State First Lady said her mission remained unchanged regardless of the legislative chamber she serves in, pledging to champion the interests of constituents through youth and women empowerment, community development, quality representation, and inclusive governance.
She stressed that leadership should be driven by service, competence, integrity, and accountability.
“My commitment remains to champion the interests of our people, deepen women’s participation in governance, empower our youths, advance community development, and provide compassionate, courageous, and purposeful leadership driven by experience, credibility, competence, and an unwavering commitment to service.
Presenting her manifesto, Anyanwu-Akeredolu outlined ten strategic pillars that would guide her legislative agenda.
These include youth empowerment and job creation through ICT training, artificial intelligence, digital marketing, entrepreneurship, vocational skills, and emerging technologies under her Empower2Become Youth Development Initiative.
She also pledged to promote improved education funding, scholarships, STEM+E learning, innovation hubs, stronger healthcare systems, maternal and child health programmes, cancer awareness campaigns, telemedicine services, and enhanced access to essential medicines.
Other priorities highlighted include women empowerment, infrastructure development, agriculture, food security, environmental sustainability, and social protection for vulnerable groups.
On security, she advocated stronger collaboration among communities, security agencies, and traditional institutions to promote peace and safety.
She further promised effective and responsive representation through closer cooperation between federal and state lawmakers to attract development projects and ensure that democratic dividends reach grassroots communities.
Calling on supporters to become ambassadors of her campaign, Anyanwu-Akeredolu said the movement was not centred on personal ambition but on building a better Owerri Federal Constituency where every community matters and every citizen has opportunities to thrive.
“As we begin this journey, I call on friends, associates, supporters, and well-wishers to become ambassadors of this movement. Reach out to your families, friends, neighbours, professional colleagues, community leaders, and social networks. Help spread the message of hope, service, inclusion, and development.
“This campaign is not about one individual. It is about building a better Owerri Federal Constituency where every community matters, every voice counts, and every citizen has an opportunity to thrive”, she said.
She pledged to remain a strong voice for the constituency and to pursue policies that would improve the living conditions of the people.
