Gov Akeredolu inaugurates office of Public Defender’s Board

..unveils Book on Ondo State Administration of criminal Justice Law

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, declared that the inability of Office of the Public Defender ( OPD ) to functioned optimally since it’s establishment in 2004 was the the inability to put in place the Governing Board of the agency..

The Governor made this disclosure on Tuesday at the official inauguration of the Governing Board of OPD at Cocoa Conference Hall, Governor office, Alagbaka Akure.

Represented by his Deputy, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Governor declared that “although, the Ondo State Office of the Public Defender law provide for the agency to have a Governing Board to make regulations for its operations, the OPD has not functioned optimally because members of the board were not appointed since its establishment in 2004” .

“So far, no subsidiary Regulations have been made to guide the OPD in carrying out its functions” .

Going further, the governor said, “today’s inauguration of the Governing Board of OPD will go down in history as a testimony of our commitment to ensuring that democratic governance is about the welfare of the citizens” .

“We have therefore taken this step to strengthen the office of Public Defender to defend the right of the vulnerable persons in our society and provide easy access to justice for our citizens” , said the Governor.

Members of the Board are;

  • Sir Charles Titiloye, Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice.
  • Mrs Funmilayo Ogundolere.
  • Rev. Father Damian Kehinde Adesugha.
  • Barr Faseesin Segun Olasimbo.
  • Mrs Faleyimu Veronica.
  • Mr Cyril Akinrinsola.
  • Barr Victor Falodun.

While launching the book on Ondo State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, the Chief Launcher, Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim OFR CFR, commended the efforts put into the book declaring that the book was a great positive development in Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s administration.

Present at the ceremony with the Deputy Governor are, Ondo State first lady Her Excellency Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the Deputy Governor’s wife, Mrs Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, Deputy Speaker, Ondo House of Assembly, Rt.Hon. Samuel Aderoboye, Secretary to Ondo State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu, Justice W.A Akintoye, Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim OFR CFR, Chief of staff to the Governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale, Head of Service, Pastor John Adeyemo, Hon Ifedayo Abegunde, Chief Imam of Akure land, Alhaji Abdukareem Yayi Akorede and others.
