Suspected Human Trafficker paraded in Ekiti


Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Ekiti State Command has paraded one Mohammed Sanusi Joseph “26” for trafficking his girlfriend to Libya for the purpose of raising money from prostitution.


Mohammed Sanusi Joseph who has been cohabiting with the lady Olaleye Anuoluwapo “22”, conspired with one Mohammed Alimat and an Agent whom her nor any of the family members knows his identity to facilitate the journey.

Mohammed Alimat is said to be a younger sister of the accused person who assisted Olaleye Anuoluwapo movement through desert to Libya by road.


It was alleged that the unknown Agent spent five hundred and sixty thousand naira only to transport the victim to Libya and if the victim must come home, the said amount must be paid back with interest on it as he has incurred so much money on the upkeep of the victim and the only way to come home apart from the mentioned option is to work in Libya and refund him.


The Agent was contacted on phone and he restated that the victim must payback his money and if she must come back, it will take another six months for her come back to Nigeria. All effort to persuade him to allow her comeback Nigeria by one of our investigators did not yield any result as he insisted that the transportation and upkeep cost must be settled first with interest on it before he can allow her comeback to Nigeria.


It was also alleged that the sum of twenty thousand was paid to the victim’s account to buy food that can sustain her in the desert before getting to Libya and part of the cash sent was used to buy hijab so as to change her look to deceive security checkpoints.


Olaleye Anuoluwapo who had a baby girl for the suspect, dropped the baby girl with him and never informed her parent before embarking on the journey to Libya explained that her boyfriend never met the parent to show his willingness to marry her before her migration to Libya in search of a better life.


The case was reported to the State Command by one Chief Olaleye Gabriel who complained that her daughter has been transported to Libya without his knowledge before embarking on the journey and he also suspected that she has been forcefully lured into prostitution in Libya.


The State Commandant Mr. John Fayemi urged parents in Ekiti State to take care of their children and discourage them from unknown Agents and unrealistic greener pastures that will always turn out to be death traps for them.


According to him, the case file and the suspect will be transferred to NAPTIP for urgent attention as the need to bring back the victim is essential so as to quickly rehabilitate her and incorporate her to the society.
