Security, a collective responsibility- ORG tells Ondo People

A non-governmental organisation, Ondo Redemption Group(ORG) has stressed the need for the residents of Ondo state to see the fight against insecurity as a collective responsibility, without playing politics during this challenging time.

Speaking on the present state of security in Ondo state in a release signed by the state coordinator of the group, Comrade Oredola Joseph, ORG said the security networking, maintenance and over-hauling can not be left in the hands of security operatives alone without the full support and cooperation of the citizenry.

The group affirmed that the State has witnessed a very challenging experience with the activities of kidnappers and hoodlums that terrorise some areas in the state in recent time, adding that insecurity is the most tasking challenge all over the world.

ORG noted that cases of kidnappings are not limited to any particular state, but lamented the way our media emphasise on the dastardly acts on daily basis, which seems to give the hoodlums ego.

” The peace enjoyed by the people since the Oluwarotimi Akeredolu administration came on board was punctured by the sudden surge in the activities of kidnappers on our highways.

“It assumed a dangerous dimension around November and early December, which the government and security operatives quickly intervene.

“And like every other challenge faced by government at any level in Nigeria, the Akeredolu administration rose up to the challenge and responded like any other responsible government should.
“In a period like this, the most that is expected of any responsible citizen is to join hands with the government to fight the enemies”. The group said.

It however expressed shock that a political group , the Sunshine Libration Forum (SLF) masquerading as a lover of the people would come out attacking Governor Akeredolu and the police boss in the state as not been sensitive, saying such act sounds ingrateful.

” it is not our duty to speak for Akeredolu and the government, but times like this, when politicians are putting on the cloak of civility and philanthropy to deceive the people demands that the few good ones among us speak out.

“We have it on good authority that since the ugly incidents of kidnapping began, the governor and all the security agencies in the state, including the police, army and immigration among others have held countless number of meetings, during which strategies were discussed. The recent run of successes is the result of these meetings and strategy sessions”. The statement read.

The group however appreciated efforts of the state government, state security agencies having done creditably well in its task of policing the state, with Commissioner of Police, Gbenga Adeyanju in the forefront of the battle against criminals in the state.

“On several occasions, Adeyanju led his men into the most dangerous places in this onerous task. It is, therefore, a big surprise that the SLF would call for the removal of this hard working man.

“Also, efforts of the present administration at providing logistics and support to fight security challenge like vans and other materials can not be over emphasised, hence the need for all and sundry with well-meaning citizens to join hands at stamping-out crimes out of the state” , it concluded.
