A woman has been arrested, charged before a court and is facing prosecution after she allegedly attacked her husband with a cutlass during a domestic dispute in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The suspect, identified as Olatunde Mary, a resident of Ilado II along Igbatoro Road, Akure, was arraigned before a competent court following investigations by the Gender-Based Offences Unit (GBV Unit) of the Ondo State Police Command Headquarters.
According to a press release issued on Thursday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the incident occurred on June 2, 2026, at approximately 2:30 p.m., when a domestic altercation between the suspect and her husband, Olatunde Julius, turned violent.
During the dispute, the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim and used a cutlass to inflict a deep cut on his left hand, causing him severe bodily injury.
The matter was reported at the GBV Unit on June 3, 2026, prompting detectives to immediately commence an investigation. Investigators obtained statements from both the victim and the suspect, gathered relevant evidence, and documented the extent of the victim’s injuries, which had been medically assessed and treated.
Upon the establishment of a prima facie case, the suspect was arrested and subsequently arraigned for prosecution.
The Command’s Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, used the occasion to reaffirm the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on domestic violence, noting that perpetrators would be held accountable regardless of gender, status, or relationship with the victim.
“The Ondo State Police Command views all forms of domestic violence as a serious threat to the safety, dignity and well-being of individuals,” the statement read.
The Command also appealed to members of the public to promptly report cases of domestic violence, abuse, and other gender-related offences to the nearest police station or the GBV Unit for immediate intervention and legal action.
