Ondo State Deputy Governor, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa has called on Nigerians on the need for volunteerism to save humanity from disasters and emergencies.

Aiyedatiwa made this appeal on Monday while declaring open, volunteerism training as part of World Civil Defence Day 2022 organized by Nigeria Civil Defence Corps, Ondo State Command, in Akure.

The training centered around volunteerism and how to quickly respond to disasters and emergencies.

Participants for the training were selected from NYSC, Teachers, Secondary School Students and Civil Society Organizations across the State.

The Deputy Governor stressing the importance of training in volunteerism said, there’s the need for appropriate training on the rules of engagement during crisis and disasters.

He said, “security is everyone’s business, so how to quickly respond to disasters and emergencies needs some trainings .

“You need some trainings or knowledge on how to engage emergency situations”, he declared.

The Deputy Governor then thanked all that are participating in the training and also Civil Defence Corps, Ondo State Command for organizing the training.

“Your participating in this life saving training is a call to service, indeed you are serving humanity” , he said.

In his welcome address, the State Corps Commandant, Dr Ahmed Abodunrin acknowledged Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s outstanding achievements in the State.

He equally disclosed that, at the end of the exercise, the command targets to train about 500 volunteers who are going to re-train other volunteers across the State.

Other dignitaries at the event are, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Lola Amuda, Press Secretary To Governor ( Office of Deputy Governor ) Kenneth Odusola-Stevenson, DFA Office of Deputy Governor, Femi Obideyi, Special Assistant To Governor on New Media, Ladi Okunniga, Dr Omosehin Adeyemo, DSC Olufemi Igbekele, Alade Adekunle, Dr Osowe Kayode and others.
