..as building of FOWOSO Centre was launched
As part of its objectives to encourage and celebrate excellence services in the society, the Foundation for Wives of Ondo State Officials and Female Political Appointees, FOWOSO, during its 3rd Summit, has honoured 22 individuals, including institutions with different categories of awards.
The event, which was chaired by Mr. Jide Ipinsagba, also featured fundraising for the construction of ultra-modern FOWOSO Centre. Mr Jide Ipinsagba, said the First Lady of Ondo State is doing great exploits with the various life-impacting programmes that she has initiated for women and girls in the state.
Ipinsagba said, “Our First Lady, Chief Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has done great things for our women and girls in Ondo State. She deserves to be encouraged and supported, and that is a very important thing to do tonight so that the good works she has been doing in the state can continue to thrive.”
In her Welcome Address, the former Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Titi Adeyemi, who appreciated the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, for his consistent support for the First Lady, congratulated the people of Ondo State, particularly the womenfolk, for having a compassionate and progressive leader in the Chief (Mrs) Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu.
Earlier in his goodwill message, a Commissioner nominee, Mr Rasaq Obe, said Mrs Akeredolu has raised the bar in connecting with the people of Ondo State like no other First Lady in our history, saying, “She is recognising the ordinary people and empowering them to do extraordinary things. We are here to celebrate what the First Lady has done particularly in the area of youth empowerment.”
At the event, the Founder of FOWOSO, and First Lady of Ondo State, Chief Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, presented some electronics on behalf of the Foundation, including printers and photocopy machines to be shared among hospitals in the state. According to her, it’s to help these hospitals in keeping the data of cancer cases as some complained of lack of these necessary gadgets.
Honoured at the dinner and award ceremony held at The Dome, Igbatoro road Akure, included Mrs. Joy Olafisoye, Founder of Who am I Foundation for Outstanding Ability in Disability Award, Miss Yufuf Boluwatife Chelsea as the Rising Star of the Year, Prince Olukayode Aroloye as the Most Supportive He4She in the local government category.
For women empowerment category, FOWOSO honoured Olori Omolade Amuseghan, the Ebun Dynamics Widows Empowerment Foundation, Mrs. Folasade Sheba-Aluko, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Ademulegun-Brown, and Mrs. Iseoluwa Obolo. While Bar. Abiye Ademoyegun bagged the Most Supportive She4She award, Hon. Albert Akintoye was honoured with the Most Supportive He4She.
Also, for Professional Excellence Award, Mrs. Bola Joel-Ogundadegbe of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, and Mrs Yemi Faboyo-Agbede of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps were both honoured for their commitment towards ending sexual and gender-based violence in Ondo State, by supporting the office of the First Lady.
Political Role Model Award went to Sen. Bode Olajumoke, while the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria bagged the Most Impactful NGO, the Restoration of the Dignity of Womanhood, ROTDOW, bagged the Outstanding Woman-Led NGO; the Sport Development award was grabbed by the Arabirin Junior Tennis club, and Mr. Isaac Afolabi CEO of Blitzik Sport, for promoting children’s interest in Tennis and basketball Sports, respectively, through annual Summer clinic.
The First Lady’s award went to Mrs. Lola Fagbemi and Mrs. Temitope Daniyan, as the Most Valuable FOWOSITE and the Most Supportive FOWOSITE, respectively. While the institutions’ award was given to OSOPADEC as the Most Supportive Organisation, the BeMore Empowered initiative as the Largest Girls Empowerment Project in Nigeria, and the AMOTEKUN Security Network AGENCY, as the Outstanding Security Outfit.
Dignitaries at the event included, the Executive Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, his wife, Betty, the deputy governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his wife, Oluwaseun; the Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladuni Odu, Barr. Jimoh Ibrahim, the Chairman, Governing Council, Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda, Zamfara, Hon. Wunmi Olatunji-Ohwovoriole; the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Gbenga Ale, members of the Cabinet, amongst others.
