The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ondo State Command, Dr. Hammed Abodunrin has advocated for more security enlightenment and awareness among the populace as a way of combating the present security challenges in the country.
He made this call at a Town hall Meeting of stakeholders at a one day programme on “National Security sensitization and re-orientation programme against political thuggery, kidnapping, drug addiction, radicalization and violent extremism” organized by National Orientation Agency in Akure, Ondo State where he listed illiteracy, poor and inadequate infrastructure, kidnapping, banditry, farmers/herders clash, arm proliferation, lukewarm relationship between the public and the security agencies and more as insecurity challenges confronting the nation.
Dr. Abodunrin maintained that educational reform, security sector reform, adequate database system, addressing porous border and deployment of technology at all levels will help in solving the present security challenges.
The Commandant called for a community friendly security agencies and capacity building in security consciousness/information dissemination. In his words “parents should stop using security personnel to harass and threaten their kids because if the kids do not trust security personnel as children, they will not trust them as adults”.
