The Anti-Human Trafficking Irregular Migration and Gender Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ondo State Command held 1-day workshop tagged: “WISE (Women in Security) Response to Gender Based Violence” at the Command permanent site, Oda road, Akure on Thursday 9th December, 2021.
While delivering the keynote address the Secretary to the Ondo State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu ably represented by Mrs Ogunsuyi Opeyemi from Political and Economic Department, Governor’s Office said women empowerment is a panacea to eradicating gender based violence and the State government is not leaving any stone unturned in ensuring that a sustainable environment is created for women in Ondo State to be fully empowered. She affirmed that the girl child is a unique and indispensable gift to any society hence, both parents, teachers, guardians and the society at large must support the education and literacy of the female gender because any act of negligence will impact the society negatively.
In his welcome address the State Commandant, Dr Hammed Abodunrin stressed the need for awareness about Personal Security and protection as would serve as antidote to gender based violence. He expressed the readiness of the Command to continue in sensitizing the public most especially in schools across the State.
Commandant Abodunrin further warned perpetrators of gender based violence to desist from such in-human act as suspects would be investigated and charged to Court. He advised the public to report all cases to the NSCDC Ondo Command as the Anti-Human Trafficking Irregular Migration and Gender Unit have been fully equipped to handle all situations professionally.
The workshop had in attendance seasoned resource persons which include: Prof. Oluremi Oluyemisi Obilade former Vice Chancellor, Tai Solarin University of Education; The Commissioner of Police, Mr Bolaji Salami, Hon. Favor Tomomewo of Ondo state House of Assembly, the Controller of Immigration Services, Ondo Command , participants from NDLEA, Nigeria Correctional Service, DIA, Ministryof women affairs among others were conspicuously present.
