Following the crisis that rocked Idogun community in Ose local government area after the demise of the traditional ruler, the Ondo state government has taken a bold step to resolve the matter.

The government has directed that an eight-man reconciliation committee be set up to resolve the ongoing deadlock surrounding the burial of the late monarch, Oba Moses Ekundayo Bakare.

The state deputy governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, announced the decision during a meeting with members of the royal family, community leaders, and government representatives in his office in Akure on Tuesday.

Oba Bakare passed away at an Akure hospital on October 15, 2026, following a brief illness. Tension erupted when the royal family attempted to bring his body back to the community for burial. Angry local youths barricaded major roads leading into the town, preventing the entry of the corpse and insisting that the burial procedure must follow due-process. The resistance forced the family to return the monarch’s body to the morgue in Owo.

Speaking at the meeting, Dr Adelami emphasized that the government’s sole interest is to restore peace to Idogun. He urged all warring factions to embrace an amicable reconciliation to correct any errors made either during the late monarch’s installation or the aborted burial process.

The newly formed eight-man committee, comprising two representatives from the royal family and five community leaders, will be chaired by the permanent secretary, ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs, Mr Dele Adesanmi.

In his remarks, the state commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Alh. Amidu Takuro, appealed to elders in the community and the royal family to cooperate with government representative to ensure speedy resolution.
