The Ondo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has mourned the death of elder statesman, educationist and national leader of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, describing his passing at the age of 100 as a monumental loss to Ondo State and Nigeria.
The party said the death of the revered centenarian marked the end of a remarkable chapter in the history of progressive politics in Ondo State, Yorubaland and the country.
In a condolence statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Otunba Muyide Adeyeluwa, the APC described Pa Fasoranti as one of the most distinguished disciples of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, whose progressive philosophy shaped his political outlook and commitment to public service.
The party noted that the late elder statesman began his political journey with the defunct Action Group during the First Republic and continued with the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) during the Second Republic.
According to the statement, Pa Fasoranti remained committed throughout his political career to the ideals of good governance, social justice, educational advancement and the welfare of ordinary citizens.
It added that his association with the Awolowo political tradition went beyond party affiliation, describing it as a lifelong commitment to the principles that defined progressive politics.
The APC noted that the late politician belonged to a generation of leaders who regarded public office as a responsibility to serve the people rather than an avenue for personal enrichment.
The party also paid tribute to his contributions to education, recalling his career as a teacher and school administrator, as well as his establishment of educational institutions, including Omolere Nursery and Primary School and Akure High School.
It said these contributions reflected his firm belief that education was fundamental to individual advancement and societal progress.
Pa Fasoranti, who served as Commissioner for Finance in the old Ondo State, was also described as a prominent figure in the progressive political family whose influence extended across the education sector and the wider Nigerian society.
The APC expressed its heartfelt condolences to the Fasoranti family, the Ondo State Government and people, the people of Akure Kingdom, the Afenifere family, as well as the late statesman’s associates and admirers.
The party prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
