Health talks on BSE, malaria, typhoid, Menstrual hygiene, blood pressure and sugar
BEMORE Summer Bootcamp, an initiative of the First Lady of Ondo State, Chief Betty-Anyanwu Akeredolu, is all-emcompassing.
Activities for day 8 of the ongoing two weeks BOOTCAMP for Girls in Owerri, the Imo State capital witnessed health talks on how to prevent certain diseases.
The session was opened by the Senior Special Assistant to Ondo State Governor on Gender Research and Documentation, Mrs Temitope Daniyan who educated the girls to be breast self aware. She taught them practical way to examine their breasts in order to detect any abnormalities in size, colour or if there’s a lump in the breast.

Using the popular SEKEM dance to demonstrate Breast Self Examination, Daniyan enjoined the girls to take the message home and teach their mothers and sisters, as a preventive measure against needless death from breast cancer due to late detection and presentation.

Dr Emmanuel Onyeama continued the session with talks about how to prevent malaria, typhoid, menstrual hygiene, blood pressure and blood sugar.
He advised them on maintaining menstrual hygiene in order to prevent infections in the reproductive organ. He listed causes and preventive measures for the diseases and advised on the need to seek medical help rather than indulging in self-medication.

It was an interactive session where they asked so many questions and were given extensive explanations.
