Following the increase of the confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria, which rose to 97, President Muhammad Buhari has ordered a restriction of movement to Lagos State and the Federal Capital Territory which have highest number of affected people, for two weeks.
Meanwhile, all vehicles conveying foods to this restricted cities must be thoroughly screened at the point of entry, while Federal Government has assured that relieve materials would as from this week be distributed to the satellite communities around these restricted areas in order to cushion the effect of hunger, as most of them depend on these cities to survive.
Addressing the nation this evening, President Muhammad Buhari orders that state governors should come up with strategies that will help to sustain the school feeding programme, such that would not bypass the directive on social distancing.
The President also orders stoppage of repayment of Tradermoni, MarketMoni and FarmerMoni for three months, and also to FG’s funded loans by Banks of Agriculture and Industry, while disclosing that a sum of #15bn had been set aside to fight Coronavirus.
According to the President, categories of people who are exempted from Stay Home directive, included Food Processing, distribution company, Petroleum, Power Generation, Workers in Telecommunication industry, broadcasters and print media who could prove that they cannot work at home.
Also, the President directed governors to nominate Doctors and Nurses who would be trained by the National Centre for Disease Control on technicalities to contain the virus
He noted that, part of the measures put in place by the FG to contain the disease was the recruitment of 100 adhoc staffs to support testing centres.
He suspends movement of passengers by both private and commercial aircrafts.
Appreciating the private and corporate individuals who had donated to the cause of Coronavirus, President Buhari said that donations would be thoroughly coordinated in order to ensure judicious distribution.
He however appealed to Nigerians to follow preventive guidelines and practice personal hygiene, while banning shake of hands.
He enjoined all to sacrifice their personal comfort in order to safeguard the nation from the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic.
