A chieftain of the APC in Ondo State and member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Dr. Akinola Awodeyi-Akinsehinwa, has said Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi do not have the mind to fix Nigeria’s economy.
He said when President Bola Tinubu entered, the country was in a very bad shape.
Government was spending almost all its money to pay debts. Fuel subsidy was eating trillions, and the dollar rate was confused. The country needed a strong leader.
Tinubu did not waste time. He removed fuel subsidy on his first day and fixed the dollar rate.
“It was very painful and people shouted, but it was the right thing that experts had been calling for”
“Everybody knew subsidy must go. Atiku and Obi knew it too. But they won’t have the courage to do it. Tinubu was not afraid. He took the risk,” he said.
Awodeyi-Akinsehinwa said Atiku wanted to be clever by half when he said if he becomes President, he would return fuel subsidy. And immediately, Peter Obi joined him to sing the same song. That one statement exposed them.
“Doesn’t that show they are not ready for the job? You cannot bring back the same thing that almost killed the economy just because you want to look good.
That is playing politics with people’s future,” he said.
He said if they bring back subsidy, where will they get the money? Will they borrow again and put Nigeria back in debt? Will they stop the money going to states, stop NELFUND for students, and stop road projects?
He said leadership is not about saying what people want to hear. It is about telling the truth and doing what is hard.
“Atiku and Obi like to talk plenty on TV and on social media, but talking is not leadership. To lead Nigeria, you need strong heart. President Tinubu has shown he has it. Atiku and Obi only know how to complain and play to the gallery. They don’t have the balls to lead,” he added.
