The Ondo State Police Command has intensified enforcement against vehicles operating without registration number plates or with covered plates, leading to the interception of 15 vehicles across the state as part of efforts to strengthen security and enforce compliance with traffic regulations.

The Command said the operation, which commenced on June 22, 2026, followed a directive by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at curbing the use of unregistered vehicles and ensuring strict adherence to existing traffic laws nationwide.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the coordinated enforcement exercise was designed to enhance public safety, improve security monitoring and discourage the use of vehicles that could be exploited by criminal elements to evade identification and detection.

The statement disclosed that all 15 intercepted vehicles had been handed over to the State Traffic Department for further action, while prosecution of the offenders had commenced at the appropriate court.

Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, said the enforcement exercise would be sustained, stressing that the operation was not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to strengthen the state’s security architecture and improve the capacity of law enforcement agencies to trace vehicles and their owners during criminal investigations.

He noted that vehicles operating without registration number plates or with concealed plates pose serious security risks, as they can be used to facilitate criminal activities without easy identification, making strict enforcement necessary.

The police commissioner urged vehicle owners and other road users to ensure their vehicles are properly registered and fitted with valid number plates at all times, while also complying with traffic regulations and cooperating with law enforcement officers.

He assured residents that similar operations would continue as part of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and promoting safer communities across Ondo State.
