Service Administrators; indispensable Key Players in Policy formulation- Ondo HoS

Administrators in the Public Service have been described as indispensable key players in the formulation of government policies and programmes as well as their implementation for efficient Service delivery to members of the general public.

The State Head of Service, Pastor Kayode Ogundele stated this while declaring open a one-day seminar for members of Chartered Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria (CIPAN) held at the conference hall of the state Ministry of Finance in Akure.

Pastor Ogundele noted that the importance of training and retraining of Officers, particularly in the public sector cannot be overemphasized to achieve greater dedication and utmost performance on the job.

He said through human resource development and capacity building, public service can be reinvented from the status-quo and retooled for excellent performance that would bring about cutting edge standards in line with the global best practices.

The Head of Service, who is a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) as well as Chartered Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria (CIPAN), enjoined Public Servants to develop themselves in all facets of their work schedule, especially in the areas of leadership skills, communication skill, Information Technology (ICT) for the purpose of efficient Service delivery and policy implementation in line with the REDEEMED Agenda of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of the state chapter of the Institute, Chief Dele Akinmoye said the seminar was conceptualized to replicate the same training that had been organized by the national body in Abuja to drive home the importance of advanced leadership training for Public Administrators.

Chief Akinmoye, who is also the Permanent Secretary, Pension Transitional Department, noted that the objective of the seminar is to enhance participants’ leadership skills, professionalism and administrative capacity with a view to improving their decision making skills.

He added that participants would also acquire new knowledge of the model of strategic making process in modern public organizations with clear understanding of the challenges and responsibilities of strategic Administrators.

The seminar which was attended by the state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Otunba Wale Akinlosotu, Permanent Secretaries of Service Matters Department, Mr Jimmy Afolabi, Establishment and Training Department, Mrs Olufunke Dare-Atunse and Administrative Secretary, Public Service Reform Office, Mr Adewale Omomowo among other top government functionaries, while the seminar lecture was delivered by a retired Permanent Secretary in the state civil service, Alhaji Olakunle Sanni.
