The Ondo State Police Command has arrested three suspected drug dealers and recovered suspected illicit substances during a routine patrol operation in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The suspects, identified as Fisayo Adedamola (female), Adeola Oluwaseun (male) and Adeogun Olumide (male), were arrested on July 24, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m. by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Squad.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the operation was part of the command’s intensified campaign against illicit drug trafficking and other crimes across the state.

The statement said the operatives, while on a strategic confidence-building patrol within Akure metropolis, intercepted the suspects who were allegedly involved in the distribution and sale of illicit drugs.

Items recovered from the suspects during a search included substances suspected to be cannabis, Tramadol capsules, Codeine syrup and Tutolin syrup.

The police said the suspects were taken into custody, while the recovered exhibits were secured as evidence.

It added that preliminary investigations were ongoing to determine the source of the drugs, identify possible accomplices and uncover any criminal network linked to the suspects’ activities.

The suspects are expected to be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling the proliferation of illicit drugs, describing drug abuse and trafficking as major contributors to violent crimes, including cultism and armed robbery.

He said the command would continue to target individuals and criminal syndicates involved in the illegal drug trade across the state.

The commissioner also appealed to parents, guardians, community leaders and residents to support the police with timely and credible information that would aid the arrest of drug traffickers and other criminal elements.

He assured residents that the command remained committed to maintaining public safety through proactive policing, intelligence-led operations and collaboration with members of the public.
