The Ondo State Police Command confirms a fatal road traffic accident that occurred on Wednesday, 20th May 2026, at about 1100hrs, in front of the VIO Office along Fiwasaye Road, Akure.

The accident involved an unregistered diesel tipper truck, a Nissan vehicle with registration number ONDO WWW-327TA driven by one Lawal Basiru Adegoke ‘M’ of Maronu Area, Akure and an unregistered Mate 90 motorcycle ridden by one Emeka Michael ‘M’, aged 40 years, of Oke Ijebu Area, Akure.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident occurred along the road, when the tipper truck reportedly collided with the motorcycle and the Nissan vehicle from the rear, leading to the tragic incident.

Police operatives swiftly responded to the scene where photographs were taken and necessary documentation carried out. The motorcycle rider and his yet-to-be-identified passenger were immediately rushed to the Federal University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Akure, where they were both confirmed dead by medical personnel on duty.

In the aftermath of the incident, some angry youths attempted to attack officials of the VIO who were present there over the unfortunate development. However, police personnel at the scene acted promptly and professionally to prevent a breakdown of law and order, ensuring that the situation was brought under control without further escalation.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy, while the accidented vehicles and motorcycle have been recovered to the station for safekeeping and further inspection.

The Command commiserates with the families of the deceased and urges motorists to always exercise caution, maintain safe speed limits and ensure strict adherence to traffic regulations to prevent avoidable loss of lives. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
