NAWOJ Summit: Stakeholders advocate increased female representation in leadership roles

Stakeholders are advocating for increased participation of women in leadership roles, stressing its importance in policy-making.

This call was made at the inaugural Women summit organized by the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ)  South West Zone B, held in Akure the Ondo state capital.

Hon. Mrs. Olawunmi Fayemi, Chairperson of the Ondo state House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, decried the declining rate of women in leadership positions and emphasized the need for their involvement to drive progress.

Addressing the summit, APC gubernatorial aspirant in Ondo state,  Mrs. Waheed Funmilayo Adekojo, represented by Engr. Clement Ibi, emphasized the need to empower women at the grassroots level to bolster the nation’s economy.

He urged decision-makers to recognize the potential of women in driving productivity and been given opportunities to excel.

Comrade Adeola Adekunle, the convener of the summit and Vice President Southwest B Zone, underscored the crucial role women play in addressing societal challenges. She emphasized that women’s political leadership is essential for inclusive policymaking, equity, and effective governance, stressing the need to dismantle systemic barriers hindering women’s progress.

The event, graced by representatives from various sectors including the governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who was represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, pledged support for women journalists.

Attendees included prominent figures in the media profession, the Ondo State NUJ chairman, Heads of Stations in the state, and women journalists from across the country.
