Ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, the Ondo State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has reassured residents of the Sunshine State of adequate security of lives and property before, during and after the celebrations.
The State Commandant , Engr Olatundun Olayinka gave the reassurance during a stakeholders interactive forum organized by the Command at Akure the State capital on Monday 19th December,2022.
While briefing the Stakeholders present, Commandant Olatunde maintained that the command has deployed 1500 personnel. The deployed personnel comprising of the Armed Squad, Quick Response Team, Rapid Response Squad, Agro Rangers, Counter Terrorism Unit, the Special Female Squad , plain cloth personnel, Mounted Unit and CBRNE units amongst others have been deployed to flash points, black spots and other essential areas to protect critical national assets and infrastructure, mount surveillance around worship and recreational centres and to patrol already marked black spots in the State as measures to curtail the pressures usually associated with the yuletide.
“We are combat and tactically ready to combat any form of insecurity in the State at this festive period. We all are aware that this week, we shall experience a large influx of people into the State. This holiday seekers will be a mixed crowd of innocent and criminally minded people trying to profit from the exodus. We shall not let our guard down as we are battle ready for any trouble maker in the State.
“Also, the coastal area and our waterways are not left out. Our Marine Unit with the assistance of the Nigeria Navy Forward Base, Igbokada are stationed to police the coastal part of the State” Olatundun assured.
Commandant Olatundun also cautioned his Personnel against any form of laxity and unprofessional conduct in the discharge of their duty during this festive period as the people are counting on the Corps to ensure a hitch free celebration.
In his words, he said ” the Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi PhD mni OFR has directed that we should ensure the safety of lives and property in our domain, safeguard all Critical national assets and infrastructure of government and protection of all agro allied businesses and other related ventures. We must therefore put in our best to ensuring that this directive is effectively and efficiently carried out.”
The NSCDC helmsman in Ondo State used the opportunity to appreciate the Ondo State government for it’s support all through the year and also thanked all the service commanders in the State for their ever winning collaboration and synergy which has solidified the security architecture of the State.
In his congratulatory message to the christian faithfuls, Commandant Olatundun advised that they should celebrate moderately and also exhibit christlikeness in their ways of life at this festive period. He reiterated the need for personal security and awareness at this period.
“Be vigilant, be watchful and report any suspicious movement or occurrences to the nearest security formation. We must all come together to fight our common enemy to a stand still and always remember, security is everybody’s business. Do have a problem free Christmas and new year celebration” He said.
