..as New Church Grammar School, Owo celebrates Diamond Anniversary
Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, CON, has charged Nigerian students to spend less time on social media except for productive engagements.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa at the 60th Anniversary of The New Church Grammar School ( NCGS ), Owo on Saturday, maintained that, the country is already feeling the negative impacts of social media.
The School was initially christened Swedenborg Memorial Grammar School after the European founder of New Church Doctrine and later changed the school’s name to New Church Grammar School which was founded on 5th February, 1962.

As the name implies, it is a missionary school founded by some elders in the church under the leadership of Bishop Udofia of blessed memory to strengthen and support the church in its quest to propagate Christianity in Owo land.
In his goodwill message, the Governor appealed to the current students of the school to follow the good foundation laid by the Old Students of the school.
“This school has no doubt carved an enviable niche for itself” .
“The foundation that was laid for you ( old students ) while in this school has really served as a springboard upon which you ( old students ) winched up yourself to this current pedestal” , he said.

It will be recalled that the School has produced great people occupying high and esteemed positions within and outside the Country.
Among the products of the school are former Head of Service, many Permanent Secretaries, Bankers, Administrators, Clergymen, Monarchs as well as the current Chief of Staff to Ondo State Governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale.
Speaking particularly to the current students, the Governor said, “you have to study hard to guaranteed of a place in the society” .
“You must be inspired by the success of the old students and make same the guiding principle in your quest for greatness”.
“You must imbibe the culture of reading and spend less time on social media, except for productive engagements… readers of todays are the leaders of tomorrow” , he said.

The Governor specially thanked the Old Students of the school for the success that the school achieved over the years as he looks forward for more successful development.
During the celebration, the Deputy Governor commissioned a brand new 18-Seater Bus donated to the school by the old students.
In his goodwill message, the National President of NCGS Old Students Association, Adewale Olagbaye Doherty encouraged all Alumni of the school not to let down their guards.
“Our will to make NCGS, Owo great is not dependent on our financial status, the degree we have, our social class, but our will to make things work”.

“Let’s therefore continue to contribute positively to the growth of our great Association and our Alma Mater” , he appealed.
In his own speech, the current Principal of the school, Mr P.A Agbayewa thanked the school old students Association for their tremendous assistance as he equally solicited for more supports for the growth and development of the school .
Many Alumni of the school, home and abroad graced the impressive event.
