The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Ekiti State Command, Mr John Olatunde Fayemi has assured Ekiti residents of adequate security before, during and after Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Mr. Fayemi said this during a briefing with some Security Detachments of the Command which is in line with the commitment of the Corps to protect Critical National Infrastructure, to restrategize and set up their expeditions in all the 16 local government of Ekiti State to reduce crime and criminal tendencies in the state especially this time that the country needs cooperation of all and sundry to secure the Country from marauders.
The Detachments which are Counter Terrorism, Agro Rangers, CNAI, Armed Sqad,Anti-Vandal and Crises Management were adequately briefed with a mapped out strategies to stamp out vandalism, terrorism, brigandage, house- breaking, Kidnapping and house -breaking from the state.
Operational guildlines were handed over to all the unit in which the Counter Terrorism Unit is expected to spread their operational tentacles to all the nooks and crannies of the state to fish out criminally minded persons or group of persons before wrecking havoc on their environment while Agro Ranger Unit was despatched to all the senatorial district of the state to watch out for destructive herders who may want to use the Christmas and New Year holiday to destroy farms in the state.
To this end, the Commandant noted that ” this is the season in which transhumanism is predominant, destructive herders may want to move into another location to graze their animals without any respect for human right and environment law, the need to curtail their actions become essential to forestall farmers/herders clashes in the state”
Protection of Critical National Infrastructure is essential this period as public properties will be put into use for the good of everybody and the need to secure them become necessary to allow them sustainable for our generation and generations unborn.
Electrical Installation, Telecommunication Mast and Base Stations, Markets, Sacred places, Worship centres, water lines and other global commons will be adequately protected by the Department. In fulfillment of this mandate, the department has placed their officers in plain clothes in all the Telecoms and Electrical sites in the state to ensure proper usage of these facilities during this festive season and guide against vandalism.
As political activities gear up in the state for the Gurbanatorial election next year, the Armed Squad Unit has been told to make sure that they are not used by greedy politicians to intimidate opponents rather they should be apolitical and act strictly according to the extant rules, rules of engagement and constitution of the country.
The State Commandant warned that there is no accidental discharge theory in NSCDC as any arm-bearers caught intimidating others with rifles will be dealt with and officers who displayed gallantry in their line of duties will be rewarded.
