..sets up Three-Member Committee for Ondo Football Agency

Ondo state government says it is fashioning out ways to ensure that the welfare of players and officials of sunshine stars football club of Akure is given the utmost attention to retain their pride in local and continental competitions.

Addressing players and officials of sunshine stars football club during a peaceful protest at the Governors office in Akure, the state capital, Governor Akeredolu debunked the rumour doing the rounds of the alleged move by the state government to sell the club.

While appealing to the team to keep calm, Governor Akeredolu who was represented by his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa said he is looking for the best way to support the club by partnering with sponsors, investors and other football stakeholders to ensure that players and officials are well taken care of.

‘What the government is trying to do is to partner with some sponsors and investors who will invest into the club so that we take the club higher than the way it is now in terms of the welfare for players and officials.’ He said

The chief coach of sunshine stars, Kayode Julius and Captain of the team, Sunday Abe in a chat with news men, agreed with the stance of the state government to partner investors that will boost the team for optimal performance.

‘Every team in the country have investors, even in the whole world. So we appreciate they are going to bring investors and it will take Sunshine Stars higher .’ Kayode said.

They however cautioned the government to partner only investors who would guarantee the jobs of both players and officials of the club and as well upgrade the team.

Akeredolu sets up Three-Member Committee for Ondo Football Agency

As part of the move to reposition the State Football Agency for optimum performance and result-oriented, Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,SAN, has set up a three-member management committee to take over the affairs of the Ondo State Football Agency (OSFA), and by extension, the Sunshine Football Club and the Sunshine Queens.

The committee is headed by the Deputy Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa who is the Chairman. The Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Wale Akinterinwa and the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Sir. Charles Titiloye are both members of the committee.

The committee will be in place for 60 days from today, March 30, 2021 during which it must find a suitable investor to take over the Sunshine Star Football Club on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.

Consequently, the former board and management of OSFA stand dissolved.

Governor Akeredolu reiterates his commitment to promoting sports in the state as a platform for providing jobs for the youths and promoting talents.
