Aragbaiye, Femi Idris, Adegbie, others bag Ondo NUJ awards

The Ondo State Head of Service, HoS, Mr Dare Aragbaiye has bagged the Distinguished Administrator award of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ.

Also, the Chairman of the State Local Government Service Commission, Mr Femi Idris was conferred with an award of long term champion of grassroots development; while the Chairman of the State board of Internal Revenue service, Mr. Tolu Adegbie bagged Ondo state pillar of Economic Development.

The award was conferred on them at the dinner event organised by NUJ to celebrate the year 2020 Press Week, held at the Pen house Alagbaka Akure, on Friday.

Others included, the state Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Comrade Bola Taiwo(Distinguished Labour Leader and Unionist), Mrs Rhoda Makinde(DROMI), as Excellence in Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Bunmi Ademosu, as Amazon in human capital Development.

The event also featured presentation of professional awards to some of the union’s members who submitted entries for different categories.

They included, Isaac Afolabi (Sport Reporter of the year in broadcast category), Sunmola Olowookere (Judicial Reporter, Print), Stephen Olajide (Photographer), Shola Ilesanmi ( Investigative, broadcast), Maria Famakinwa, (Investigative, Print), Augustine Adeoye, (Information Officer), among others.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the State NUJ Chairman, Mr Adetona Aderoboye, noted that the awardees were approved by the national body of the union after thorough investigation.

Appreciating the state governor for his support for the union by approving weigh in allowance for its members in the public service and other numerous interventions for media organisations in the state, Adetona appealed for elevation of Journalists to the position of Permanent Secretary.

Dignitaries at the glamorous ceremony, included the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Donald Ojogo, NLC Chairman, Mr Sunday Adeleye, former SSG, Mr. Ifedayo Abegunde whose wife was also an awardee, among others.

The dinner and award night climaxed the weeklong activities for the year 2020 Press week which started on Sunday, December 13th with Thanksgiving service, followed by Visitation to the orphanage on Monday, public lecture on Tuesday and health walk and children’s party on Wednesday.
