Crawlers race competition, first of its kind- Owanikin

The Ondo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports development, Barrister Dotun Owanikin has commended the wife of the state governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu for initiating Crawlers race competition which was aimed at promoting love and unity within family.

The first edition of the Crawlers competition was held on Tuesday as part of activities to commence the second summit of the Foundation of the Wives of Ondo State Officials, FOWOSO slated to start on Wednesday December 4th to 5th 2019, in Akure the state capital.

According to him, the innovation which featured babies within the ages of 8-11months was an avenue to attract the interest of the young ones in sporting activities right from the tender age, and to also earn parents’ support.

Speaking with JATS Online News shortly after the end of the competition which was held at the Adegbemile cultural center, the Sport Commissioner said he was elated with what he witnessed, and expressed readiness of the Ministry to prepare for a better replication of the game in 2020.

” I commend Arabinrin Betty Akeredolu for this innovation. It is the first of its kind anywhere in the world. You could see the enthusiasm of parents, and I’m sure Ondo State will have a game to export to the world with what we have seen today with the babies.

” I was highly elated when I heard that this competition is coming up, I’m here to see something of this kind for the first time and I can tell you from what we have seen here today, coming year, many parents would want to participate.

” There are some areas we have to fine-tune for future competition and I have noted such, and we are going to look at how to improve on the show”, he said.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Titi Adeyemi noted that the innovation was intended to develop children that are smart, goal-getters that their parents would be proud of in the future.

She added that the Crawlers race competition was also aimed at sharpening the skill of the children and to test their brilliancy.
