Election to pick new Olowo holds today

Anxiety has gripped the ancient town of Owo as the Council of Senior Omolowos cast vote today to pick the next king.

The exalted throne became vacant on Tuesday April 17, following the demise of Oba David Victor Folagbade Olateru-Olagbegi.

The Hope reliably gathered through the spokesman of the council, Chief Jamiu Ekungba that the voting has been fixed for 3pm.

The full text messages conveying the information read “please be informed that the voting  is Friday July 12, 2019 at 3pm.

Owo tradition, according to sources empowers the council of Senior Omolowos to select by voting any of the candidates vying for the Olowo stool.

Eighteen Princes drawn from the Elewokun dynasty obtained nomination forms while 16 of them showed up for the screening.

Our correspondent who visited the town yesterday observed that palpable anxiety has gripped the residents of the town about the choice of the Senior Omolowos.

Some market women openly offered prayers that a popular candidate would find favour with the king makers.

A trader, Mrs Olamoyon Adafin hoped that the final choice of a new king will bring to an end the agony of trading at the Ogwata market which is not convenient for traders.

The Hope learnt that water tight security has been thrown around Owo town to forestal any break down of law and order.
