58th Independence : Akeredolu frees 17 prisoners


Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), has pardoned 17 prisoners as part of the activities to mark the 58th independence anniversary celebration of Nigeria as a country.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Segun Ajiboye.

According to the statement, Akeredolu pardoned the prisoners in exercise of his right in accordance with the recommendation of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.

The statement read: “I, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the Governor of Ondo State of Nigeria, in exercise of the power conferred on me by paragraph (d) of the sub-section (1) of Section 212, of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended). I am pleased to extend my grace and mercy unto the said prisoners.

“My will and pleasure, therefore, is that you discharge the said prisoners out of prison custody according and forthwith.”
