..Elects New Executives

A new set of Executives to direct the affairs of the Academic Staff Cooperative Multipurpose Society of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, has been inaugurated, even as the Ministry of Cooperatives voted the Society one of the most transparent and reliable in South West Nigeria.

The inauguration of the new Management Committee was part of activities marking the 16th and 17th Annual General Meetings of the Society held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at its Secretariat in Akungba Akoko.

The new Executives are Drs. Simeon Olaogun (President), Josephine Olagunju (VP), Abiola Akingbemisilu (Secretary), and Olusola Igbekoyi (Treasurer), while the immediate past President, Dr. Adedayo Afe would serve as Ex-Officio.

In his Goodwill Message, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, commended the outgoing leadership of ASCMS on quality leadership and maintaining a high degree of transparency and honesty during its tenure.

Prof. Ige, who was represented by the Dean of Postgraduate School, Prof. Benson Akinnawonu, who pledged that the University would continue to support all cooperative societies, also charged the newly inaugurated executive members to be diligent and transparently honest in carrying out their duties.

Also speaking, the Director of Cooperative Services in the Ministry of Trade and Commerce, Ondo State, Mr Braiye Williams, represented by Pastor David Omotehinse, described the Society as one of the best and most reliable in the South West. He commended the outgoing Management Committee for its good works in the past four years of steering the ship of the Society. He added that the Ministry is proud of the Society.

In his Inaugural Speech, the new President, Dr. Simeon Olaogun, promised to expand the membership and revenue base of the Society through well thought-out plans and to prioritise the welfare of members.

He called on cooperators to join hands with him in moving the body forward and to be faithful to their monthly deductions and contributions.
In his Valedictory Speech, outgone President, Dr. Adedayo Afe, thanked all cooperators for their support, even as he said that all applications for loans and palliatives were given despite the outbreak of Covid-19 and its attendant financial upheavals.

He said that in spite of the challenges faced by the outgoing Executives, the Society was able to run smoothly and maintain a healthy status throughout the periods under review.

He described AGM as an occasion for the Executives to give an account of their stewardship, and for cooperators to assess their performance in the previous financial year and suggest new ideas for better performance.
