..wants same in Ondo to reduce trauma of medical tourism
The wife of Ondo State Governor, Arabinrin Betty-Anyanwu Akeredolu was among the dignitaries who attended the official commissioning of the Marcelle Ruth’s Cancer Center and Specialist Hospital in Victoria Island Lagos, today.
Mrs Akeredolu who joined the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his wife Ibijoke, the First Lady of Kebbi State, Dr. Shinkafi Bagudu and the host of others to inspect the facility, expressed optimism that Ondo State would be able to establish same.
She premised her optimism on the possibility of an individual, in the person of the Founder of Marcelle Ruth’s Cancer Center to solely establish such a State of the Art facility, noting that a government should be able to have one.
According to her, having enough of such facility around would reduce medical tourism to foreign lands and also save the country from the foreign exchange expended on such trip, including the trauma that comes with it.
The Founder of the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria, BRECAN, opined that the facility would bring many benefits , including the needed capacity building that would provide quality healthcare services in Nigeria.
She, therefore, commended the Founder, Dr. Mrs Modupe Elebute-Odunsi and her husband for their commitment to invest in such a project with a huge deficit, saying, “they’ve done well for this country”.
In his remarks, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the Founder as a big catch for Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.
Commending her for the courage, resilience and tenacity to achieve the feat, Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that it would take 15 years training to become a specialist in all internal organs, which the Founder had become.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Founder, Dr. Mrs Modupe Elebute-Odunsi, who named the facility after her mother-in-law, noted that about 45 specialists who are highly skilled, and are committed to providing the highest quality of healthcare, had been recruited.
According to her, the facility is capable to treat all forms of cancer with latest world class equipment, and other specialist conditions.
Also at the event were, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Wife of the Former Senate President, Mrs Toyin Saraki, Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, among others.
