Stakeholders excited as ODSG begins boreholes project in Ose LG

Stakeholders in Ose Local Government of Ondo state have expressed happiness as the state government begins new boreholes project and rehabilitation of non functioning ones for water supply in the area.

The project which was flagged off at Ifon, the headquarters of the local government had in attendance, traditional rulers and political office holders in the area.

Welcoming the people at the occasion, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Dotun Owanikin Esq. told the people that the flagoff became imperative to inform the them about the development.

The Commissioner who appreciated Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) for the scheme said it is the vision of the Governor to provide portable water for people of the state across the 18 local government areas adding that it was the turn of the local government.

Also speaking, the Caretaker Chairman of the Local Government, Dr Anthony Modupe also appreciated the Governor for the laudable project and pleaded for the local government be considered for solarised boreholes.

Explaining the modus operandi of the scheme, the General Manager of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) Engineer Rotimi Oladimeji said the water scheme named ‘Kamomi Aketi’ was designed by the present administration led by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN to provide water for all and sundry in the state.

The GM who stressed that the scheme is under the Ministry of Water Resources, Public Sanitation and Hygiene maintained that the project would cut across rural and urban communities in the local government.

He said the scheme has the mandate to increase water accessibility to rural and urban people of the state by 50% in the first term of the present administration. He added that an appreciable success has been made from an increase from the 4% rating at the inception of Arakunrin Akeredolu administration to 23.3%.

Engr Oladimeji who revealed that non functional boreholes would be rehabilitated while new ones would be sunk in areas lacking them in the entire communities of the local government, said such has been the practice in the fourteen local governments already visited.

He used the occasion to encourage and sensitise the people on maintenance culture informing them about Kamomi Aketi Accelerated Water Scheme project that intends to provide about 110,000 litres of water from about three boreholes sources to serve communities within the range of five kilometers.

While noting that the scheme has placed the state as a leading supply of water to the people in the country, he said some boreholes would be solarised.

Reacting to this development, the Onifon of Ifon and Chairman, Council of Obas in the Council Area, Oba Israel Adegoke together with the Onimoru of Imoru, Oba Rotimi Obamuagun among others appreciated Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), for the project noting that the Governor has never failed in his promises to them.

They urged the engineers to do solid jobs that would stand the test of time and be easily maintained.

The attendance at the occasion included: the Onidogun of Idogun, Oba Bakare Paul, representatives of; Alaani of Idoani, Onimeri of Imeri, Alafo of Afo, Ojima of Okeluse, Olute of Ute, Ikaaro Chief in Council respectively.
