Empowerment: OSDU donates instruments worth millions of naira to indigenous musician

The Ose Social Development Union (OSDU), yesterday donated musical instruments worth N2.3m to a popular musician, Mr. Adekolu Modupe, alias Adewesco.

The event was part of the pre-AGM activities of the Union.

Adewesco, an indigene of Ifon in Ose Local Government area of Ondo State, started his Juju music career in the year 1971 in Ifon before he later moved to Agbor in Delta State and then to Lagos to continue his musical career.

The President of the Ose Social Development Union, Mr. Debo Atunwa(FCBAN, FBMA-UK, FNIM) revealed that the union’s quest to donate musical instruments to the musician was in accordance with the promise made by some members of the Union when he (Adewesco) entertained guest after the 2018 AGM held in Ifon.

The decision was reviewed later by the Union General Assembly meeting in Lagos, considered and approved as a commendable idea aimed at practically rallying round the need of the musician.

The general motive and mission of the Union which equally fueled the donation is to foster unity, peace and provide support/empowerment for members’ growth and projects in Ose communities.

In his opening remarks, the Union President said ‘there’s always something to be thankful for as humans’ .

”We thank God for putting the Union in a position to touch lives positively by providing support to alleviate their conditions in past programmes and particularly the donation of instruments to the popular musician Mr. Adekolu Modupe alias Adewesco”.

The event had in attendance the Caretaker Chairman of Ose Local Government, Dr. Anthony Modupe, who commended the vision and efforts of the Union, then commissioned and handed the instruments to the beneficiary.

Also, the Ifon Development Union was represented by Mr. Funso Adeniba. The OSDU members present were Engr. Biodun Ibrahim (Pioneer President and ex-officio), General Secretary Mr. Tunde Adedugbe, Mr. Niyi Ageh, Engr. Ola Ibrahim, Dr. Benjamin Adedugbe, Mr. Adesola Adepoyigi Mr. Adeoba Olikenyo, Mr. Sunday Oloni and Mr. Olusola Isijola.

As part of the 2019 AGM activities, the Union members paid courtesy visits first to the Olute of Ute, HRM, Oba Oluwole Akinrogbe on 25th December and to the Olufon of Ifon, HRH Oba Israel Adegoke Adeusi JP on the 26th December. The visit to the Olute’s palace was led by a member and host, Chief Samson Odipe (The Ajeghe of Ute land).

It’s a one on one avenue for the members to interact and discuss the daunting challenges confronting the communities. Some critical measures to address them were also outlined.

The OSDU leadership promised to be and remain good partners on steps outlined to curb incessant security threat facing Ifon and environs.

The Union and traditional leaders prayered for safe, secured and peaceful coexistence amongst the people and communities.

The Ose Social Development Union was established in January 2010 ( then it existed and operated as Ose Consultative Forum) and registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in October 2013.

With the registration completed, the name changed to Ose Social Development Union.

The General Assembly meets every last Sunday of the month n Lagos and Annual General Meeting which holds every 26th December in Ifon, Ose LGA Headquarters (being the Principal address of the Union).

It’s imperative to state that a summary of the main objective, mission and activities of the Union shows that at its 2014 Annual General Assembly, bursary award was given to 10 students in all the public Secondary schools in the LGA, assisted an indigent law school applicant for admission fees, donated a set of computer with one year internet subscription to the Palace of Olufon, provision of well equipped ICT Center at the Union Secretariat in Ifon- which provides ICT skills for youth in localities around, a platform for e-learning and registration for WAEC, Jamb and other related services.

These gestures are attempt to uplift others and show them excellent light!
In the approved 2020 OSDU Roadmap, the annual educational activities have been broaden and approval received to pay the WAEC fees for 15 students (#20,00 each) in public secondary schools in Ute and Ifon, for both indigenes and non-indigenes. In similar vein, a Committee has been set up on Medical Outreach for Community and Aged People.

The climax of the activities was the 2019 AGM held at the Union Secretariat, which also had in attendance Chief Samson Odipe.
