..as Police intensify hunt for killers, rescue two victims


Residents of Igushi community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State have raised alarm over worsening insecurity following a deadly attack by suspected kidnappers that claimed the lives of a woman and her daughter.
According to a resident who spoke on condition of anonymity, the attackers stormed the community on Thursday and abducted the victims, creating panic among locals.

The source disclosed that the victims were later discovered dead, sparking outrage and fear within the community.
Describing the situation as unbearable, residents said they now live in constant fear, calling on government and security agencies to urgently address the rising wave of violence in the area.

They said the Igushi community is less than a 20-minute drive to Alagbaka, the seat of the Ondo State Government, and expressed concern over the level of infiltration by unknown gunmen into the Akure metropolis.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, condemned the attack, describing it as a heinous act that led to the loss of innocent lives.
He, however, noted that two other victims were rescued through a swift and coordinated operation by security operatives.
“The Ondo State Police Command strongly condemns the violent incident at Igushi via Ala, Akure, which resulted in the tragic loss of two lives. While two victims were successfully rescued, we express deep sorrow over the unfortunate deaths recorded,” he said.
The police spokesperson assured residents that adequate security measures have been put in place to safeguard lives and property, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible and timely information that could aid ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, concerned residents have appealed for increased security presence in the community to prevent further attacks.
