A grieving father, Mr. Rufus Farotimi, is demanding justice after a tragic road accident claimed the life of his 21-year-old son and reduced his residence to rubble in Aramoko-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, March 26, 2026, threw the quiet community into mourning when a heavy-duty truck reportedly lost control and rammed into the Farotimi family house, killing Promise Farotimi, a 300-level student of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, who was asleep at the time.
Eyewitnesses said the truck veered off the road at high speed before crashing into the building, trapping the victim under the debris. Residents and sympathizers reportedly rushed to the scene in a desperate attempt to rescue him, but he was pronounced dead.
Speaking amid tears, Mr. Farotimi described the incident as a double tragedy that has left him shattered and homeless.
“My son was killed, and I am the owner of the house. This accident has destroyed my house completely. I have lost my child and my shelter in one moment,” he lamented.
According to community sources, the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the crash, abandoning the vehicle. However, his assistant was apprehended by local residents and handed over to security operatives.
Documents recovered from the truck reportedly identified the fleeing driver as Shuaibu Yusuf, while efforts are ongoing to trace both him and the company responsible for the vehicle.
Community leaders in Aramoko-Ekiti have attributed the tragic incident to reckless driving, excessive speed, and the deplorable condition of the road, which they say has become a death trap due to lack of proper maintenance and traffic control measures.
“This is not the first time we are witnessing such a tragedy on this road. Something urgent must be done to prevent further loss of lives,” a community leader said.
Residents have also called on the Ekiti State Government to enforce stricter regulations on heavy-duty vehicles plying residential areas, including speed limits and designated routes.
The Ekiti State Police Command confirmed the incident, noting that an investigation is underway to apprehend the fleeing driver and determine the circumstances that led to the crash.
Police authorities assured that anyone found culpable would be brought to justice, while also urging the public to provide useful information that could aid the investigation.
Meanwhile, sympathizers, students of FUOYE, and members of the community have continued to visit the bereaved family, describing Promise as a promising young man whose life was cut short in a preventable tragedy.

As the family mourns, Mr. Farotimi is appealing not only for justice but also for support to rebuild his life after what he described as “an unimaginable loss.”
