The University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital Ondo (UNIMEDTH) has taken a significant step towards improving healthcare delivery with the procurement and distribution of essential medical equipment across key clinical areas of the hospital.
The newly acquired equipment includes thirty (31) high-end multiparameter monitors designed to enhance patient monitoring and improve clinical outcomes in the Accident and Emergency Unit, operating theatres, and post-surgical wards. In addition, specialized equipment has been provided to strengthen the management of eye-related conditions, alongside other ancillary hospital equipment.
Furthermore, a Fluorescence Immunoassay Analyzer was installed in the laboratory to support the conduct of specialized diagnostic tests, further expanding the hospital’s diagnostic capacity. New incubators were also added to the Neonatal Intensive Care units to support the care of premature babies.
Speaking during the distribution of the equipment to various wards, the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Professor Akinwunmi Akinbodewa, commended the Chief Medical Director, Professor Michael Olumide Gbala, for his visionary leadership, commitment, and dedication to the growth of the institution.
He noted that the effective and prudent utilization of available resources by the hospital management made the procurement possible, leading to significant improvements in service delivery and patient care.
Professor Akinbodewa further applauded the Chief Medical Director for his strategic direction in strengthening the hospital’s infrastructure, medical equipment base, and overall healthcare services. The Management has also expanded and restructured the Accident and Emergency Department to effectively meet the growing demand for emergency care services. According to him, these efforts are already yielding positive results in terms of improved clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction.
He also expressed appreciation to the Government of Ondo State, under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for its continued support and commitment to the development of the institution.
He highlighted the Government’s ongoing efforts in the comprehensive upgrade of the hospital, including the provision of state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic equipment such as a 160-slice cardiac-enabled CT scan, a 1.5 Tesla MRI machine, 3D mammography systems, multiple 4D ultrasound machines, Digital Radiograph, Urodnamic study machine as well as new laparoscopy and endoscopy equipment.
The planned establishment of a fully equipped In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) unit was also noted as a major milestone in expanding specialized healthcare services within the institution.
Furthermore, ongoing developmental initiatives, including the planned construction of residential accommodation for resident doctors within the hospital quarters, underscore the commitment of both the Government and hospital management to delivering world-class healthcare services.
