President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged traditional rulers across Nigeria to promote unity, encourage dialogue and discourage violence in their communities, amid growing concerns over security and social cohesion.
The President, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, gave the charge at the launch of the autobiography of the Oluabo of Ilu-Abo, Olu Falae, titled “The Triumph of Grace.” The event was held at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs in Victoria Island.
Tinubu noted that traditional institutions play a critical role in maintaining peace, stressing that security is not solely the responsibility of government but a shared duty requiring collaboration at all levels. He described Oba Falae as a respected statesman and monarch whose public service record reflects integrity, intellect and commitment to national development.
In his remarks, Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, called for a return to value-based leadership in Nigeria. He said the life of Oba Falae exemplifies discipline, resilience and service, urging leaders to uphold accountability and honour in both public and private life.

Governor Aiyedatiwa described the event as more than a celebration, noting that it provided an opportunity to reflect on leadership ideals and Nigeria’s direction. According to him, the autobiography serves as a guide for navigating leadership challenges, emphasising that integrity remains the most enduring asset of any leader.
He added that Oba Falae’s career offers practical lessons for younger generations, especially in a time of shifting values and uncertainty. He stressed that diligence, courage and moral clarity are essential qualities for effective leadership.
The Governor also highlighted Nigeria’s socio-economic evolution, noting that past policy decisions should be assessed within the context of their time. He described Oba Falae as a symbol of disciplined service whose contributions as a civil servant, minister and presidential candidate continue to inspire.
Reviewing the book, former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, praised the author, describing the work as a reflection of diligence, integrity and faith. He noted that the title underscores Oba Falae’s belief in divine guidance, adding that faith has remained central to his life and career.
Also speaking, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, represented by his deputy, described the monarch as a visionary leader and an enigma.
In his remarks, Oba Falae expressed gratitude for the successful launch of his autobiography, recounting key moments in his life which he described as evidence of divine grace. He narrated how he survived a near stillbirth, escaped a fatal air crash due to a last-minute change of flight, and endured a kidnapping incident in which he was unexpectedly shown mercy.
“These experiences show grace at work,” he said, while also reflecting on his career, including his appointment as Managing Director of Nigeria Merchant Bank, which he described as remarkable.
The event attracted several dignitaries, including former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babagana Kingibe; former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi; and Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Dayo Adeyeye, among others.
