The Director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) has announced his resignation, citing strong objections to the United States’ ongoing war in Iran.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the outgoing director said his decision followed “much reflection,” noting that he could no longer, in good conscience, support the military action.
“I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation,” he stated, adding that the conflict appeared to have been initiated under pressure from Israel and its influential lobby in the United States.
The resignation takes immediate effect.
Despite his criticism of the war, the former director expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, describing his tenure as an honour. He specifically acknowledged his time working under the President of the United States and the Director of National Intelligence, as well as leading the team of professionals at the NCTC.
“It has been an honor serving… and leading the professionals at NCTC,” he said.
The development comes amid growing debate within U.S. political and security circles over the justification and implications of the Iran conflict.
He concluded his statement with a message of patriotism, saying, “May God bless America.”
No official response has yet been issued by the White House or the Office of the Director of National Intelligence regarding the resignation.
