The All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of a new date for the conduct of its State Congress in Ondo State following the interim order issued by the Federal High Court in Akure.

In a letter dated March 9, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of INEC, the party said the decision became necessary after the court restrained both the commission and the APC from conducting the earlier scheduled congress.

The letter, jointly signed by the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, and the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, stated that the party had resolved the issues that led to the court action.

“You will recall that there was an ex-parte order from the Federal High Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State on Monday, March 2, 2026, restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and our party from conducting the State Congress for Ondo State earlier scheduled to hold on March 3, 2026,” the letter read.

The party explained that steps had been taken internally to address the dispute.

“Please note that since the order was granted, we have activated our internal mechanisms and have been able to amicably resolve the issues leading to the ex-parte order by the Federal High Court,” the party stated.

According to the notice, the congress has now been rescheduled to hold on March 11, 2026, at the International Cultural and Events Centre (The Dome), Akure, by 10:00 a.m.

“Consequently, you are to note that the Congress for Ondo State will now hold on March 11, 2026, by 10:00 a.m. at the International Cultural and Events Centre (The Dome), Akure,” the letter added.

The APC apologised for any inconvenience the change of date might cause and urged the electoral body to take note of the development and act accordingly.

The development comes amid legal disputes surrounding the conduct of the party’s congresses in Ondo State, which led to a court order directing parties to maintain the status quo pending further hearing.
