..arrest 11 suspects
The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, has directed religious leaders across the state to temporarily halt night worship services following the abduction of six worshippers in Uso, Owo Local Government Area.
The directive was issued on Friday at the Police Headquarters in Akure while the Commissioner addressed journalists on the recent kidnapping of members of the Celestial Church during a midnight service along the Uso–Owo Expressway on February 25.
He explained that armed men stormed the church in the early hours of the day and whisked away six worshippers.
Lawal disclosed that a joint security operation involving the police, the Nigerian Army, and local vigilante groups, carried out under his supervision, resulted in the arrest of 11 suspects.
According to him, one of the victims was rescued shortly after the incident, while an informant believed to have aided the attackers was also apprehended.
He added that the suspects are currently being interrogated, and useful information obtained from them is assisting security agencies in efforts to dismantle the criminal network responsible for the attack.
The Commissioner stressed that the temporary suspension of night services was necessitated by prevailing security concerns and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements to security agencies.
