The Ondo State Government has denied allegations that it sponsored thugs to disrupt a recent political meeting of the All Progressive Congress party on Tuesday in Akure, describing the claims as malicious and an attempt to discredit the administration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.

Speaking on behalf of the government  on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku,  said the allegations were false and misleading, alleging that they were orchestrated by individuals seeking to tarnish the governor’s image and destabilise the state’s peaceful political environment.

According to him, Governor Aiyedatiwa was neither aware of nor connected to the meeting in question and could not have authorised any act of violence.

He noted that the governor’s leadership style is rooted in civility, inclusiveness and respect for democratic principles, with no tolerance for violence or political intimidation.

Ajanaku added that Ayedatiwa’s record in public service reflects a commitment to dialogue and peaceful engagement.

The government also maintained that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State remains disciplined and committed to constructive democratic participation.

“Several political meetings and stakeholder engagements have taken place across the state without any disruption, this demonstrates the party’s internal cohesion and orderly conduct.

“The Aiyedatiwa-led administration remains focused on delivering good governance and advancing development across critical sectors of the state’s economy”. He added

The Commissioner noted that the government aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at promoting national growth and improving citizens’ welfare.

Ajanaku said sustaining peace and strengthening democratic values remain central to the administration’s policies.

He emphasised that the stable political climate in the state has enabled the government to concentrate on infrastructure development, social services and economic progress.

Describing the allegations as a deliberate attempt to create division, he urged the public to disregard what he termed baseless claims.

He also called on political actors to embrace responsible conduct and focus on issue-based campaigns as political activities intensify.

He warned against the spread of misinformation capable of undermining public trust and assured residents that security agencies are alert and committed to maintaining law and order.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and democratic integrity, stating that Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration will continue to promote inclusive governance and policies aimed at improving the welfare of the people.
