A Magistrate Court in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has set aside the arrest warrant previously issued against the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Bosede Osamaye, for failing to appear in court.
The warrant stemmed from a suit accusing the commissioner of allegedly assaulting a Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Temitope Alphonso, in the presence of officials of the Ministry of Women Affairs.
At the resumed hearing, defence counsel, Barrister A.K. Adewusi, appealed to the court to vacate the warrant, presenting a second medical report to explain the commissioner’s absence at the earlier sitting.
Counsel to the claimant, Barrister Victor Ajayi, did not object to the request, stating that both parties were now in court and that moves toward an out-of-court settlement were ongoing.
After admitting the medical report into evidence, the presiding Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, vacated the arrest warrant, holding that the commissioner’s appearance made the earlier order unnecessary, having been overtaken by events.
The court also granted Mrs. Osamaye bail on self-recognisance and directed her to submit a written undertaking to always appear in court until the case is concluded.
The matter was adjourned until February 20, 2026, for further proceedings.
