The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed as false and speculative reports suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima may be replaced as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a press statement issued on January 26, 2026, by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party said its attention had been drawn to what it described as a growing “media frenzy” over alleged plans to substitute Shettima.

The party noted that the rumours had recently escalated, with specific individuals being mentioned as possible replacements.

The APC, however, stated categorically that such claims are “purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless,” urging media organisations not to provide platforms for what it called rumour-peddlers and questionable sources whose aim is to create discord and confusion in the country’s political space.

The party also reminded the public that, in line with existing laws and electoral regulations, the ban on political activities is still in force. It stressed that its current priority is governance, not electioneering.

According to the statement, the APC remains focused on supporting President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in implementing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which it said is driving bold reforms aimed at transforming the economy, promoting prosperity, and improving citizens’ living conditions.

The party further cautioned ministers, senior government officials, and party leaders against actions or comments that could fuel unnecessary political speculation.

It urged them to concentrate on their responsibilities in service to the government and the party, and to consolidate the achievements of the Tinubu administration.
