The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ondo State Chapter, has congratulated one of its members, Mrs  Abimbola Akindunbi, on her appointment as the substantive Editor of The Hope Newspaper.

The appointment, which was approved by the Management of Owena Press Limited, marks a significant milestone in the history of the organisation, as Mrs Akindunbi becomes the first female Editor of the newspaper since its establishment.

Ondo NAWOJ also expressed deep appreciation to the Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for approving her elevation, describing the decision as a bold step that reflects the governor’s commitment to gender inclusion, professionalism and merit in public service.

Mrs Akindunbi, a seasoned journalist aged 52, brings decades of experience to her new role. Before her confirmation as substantive Editor, she served as Deputy Editor of Weekend Hope in 2024, Editor of Weekend Hope in 2025, and later as Acting Editor of The Hope Newspapers.

She is a member of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and an associate member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Ondo State Chapters.

The Association wished Mrs Akindunbi success in her new assignment and expressed confidence in her capacity to further strengthen professionalism, ethical standards and excellence in journalism at The Hope Newspaper.
