In furtherance of its sustained and proactive policing strategy aimed at safeguarding the lives of students and staff, as well as protecting school property across Ondo State, the Ondo State Police Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, conducted a comprehensive security assessment of schools across the state on Friday, 16th January, 2026.

The assessment exercise was personally led by the Commissioner of Police, accompanied by members of the Command’s management team and the Area Commander, Owo. Schools assessed during the exercise included Federal Government College, Idoani; Police Secondary School, Isua-Akoko; Federal Government Girls’ College, Akure; Police Secondary School, Akure, among others.

At Federal Government College, Idoani, the CP and his team were warmly received by the Principal, Mrs. Adeaga O. A., who expressed profound gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police for his unwavering support in ensuring the safety and security of students. Similarly, at Federal Government Girls’ College, Akure, the Director/Principal, Mrs. Lawal Adenike Idiat, commended the Commissioner of Police for his continuous support, particularly with the deployment of additional police personnel to enhance the protection of students, staff, and school property.

CP Adebowale Lawal also lauded the readiness and support of the Brig. Gen Ifeanyi of 32 Brigade Artillery of the Nigerian Army and Ondo State Commandant of Nigeria Civil Defense Corps, Oluyemi Ibiloye Joshua as well as other security agencies and non-state actors, for their sustained coverage of both public and private schools across the state. These efforts, he noted, underscore the strength and relevance of the robust inter-agency cooperation and collaboration currently enjoyed in Ondo State.

Similarly, the Commissioner of Police visited the boundary areas shared by Ondo State with Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, and Edo States, where he assessed security deployments. During the visit, he charged the operatives on duty to discharge their responsibilities with utmost professionalism, adherence to human rights, and unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property.

The Commissioner further expressed deep appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for his visionary leadership and continuous support, particularly with the approval and deployment of additional Police Mobile Force (PMF) operatives alongside an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), which have significantly strengthened school security and enhanced public safety.

In conclusion, the Commissioner of Police reassured residents of Ondo State that adequate security measures both covert and overt have been put in place to ensure the safety of all schools, students, staff, and their properties across the state.
